Interstate 5 southbound lanes and one northbound lane was closed Tuesday afternoon north of Canyonville following a non-injury crash involving a truck transporting a 185,000 pound concrete beam. Oregon State Police (OSP) and ODOT were on scene and a detour was in place using an alternative route at milepost 103 and milepost 98.

On December 17, 2013 prior to 2:05 p.m., a commercial truck hauling a 178-foot concrete beam driven by JAMES A. VANCE, age 44, from Philomath, was traveling in the right hand southbound lane of Interstate 5 near milepost 102 through a right curve when the trailer and heavy load rolled onto their side, crashing into the center concrete divider. The truck, trailer and load came to an uncontrolled rest across the southbound lanes and the impact pushed the center barrier into the left hand northbound lane.

VANCE was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. VANCE was cited by OSP for Fail to Drive Within Lane. Trooper Kevin Vanatta is the lead investigator.

ODOT had a detour in place for southbound traffic and one lane was used for northbound traffic for several hours.
