A joint investigation by Silverton Police Department, Silverton Fire District, Oregon State Police (OSP) Arson & Explosives Section, and Office of State Fire Marshal led to the arrest Friday of a man on arson charges related to a Saturday night fire at a Silverton-area residence.
On December 20, 2013, OSP Detective Howard Greer arrested MATTHEW WALTER PETRINA, age 30, from Silverton, following an interview at the OSP Salem Area Command office. PETRINA was arrested on two counts of Arson in the First Degree related to a fire reported December 14, 2013 at approximately 11:12 p.m. at 1015 Oak Street in Silverton.
Silverton Fire Department firefighters responded to the fire that caused extensive damage to the double-wide mobile home where the suspect resided. At the request of Silverton Fire Department, investigators from OSP Arson & Explosive section and Office of State Fire Marshal responded to assist in the fire investigation with Silverton Police Department.
The structure will likely be considered a total loss with damage exceeding $50,000.
