A suspect sought in connection with a November 15, 2013, assault involving a Samurai sword at a Grants Pass-area residence was arrested Thursday by Beaverton Police Department.

According to Sergeant Jeff Fitzgerald, Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division, PRESTON JAMES SWEANEY, age 23, was arrested on December 19 at approximately 2:15 p.m. by Beaverton police in the 14000 block of SW 6th Street. SWEANEY, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants, is a suspect in an assault in which he allegedly used a Samurai sword during an argument causing laceration wounds to his 23-year old brother. A warrant issued by a Josephine County Circuit Court Judge charging Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon was served on SWEANEY today while he is lodged in jail.
