Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 213 south of Molalla

A 20-year old Molalla woman died Friday morning when she lost control of her car on Highway 213 about 1/4 mile south of S. Kropf Road and was struck broadside by a van. The other driver received non-life threatening injuries.
On January 4, 2008 at approximately 11:00 a.m. a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt two-door driven by ROCIO FREGOSO NAVARRO, age 20, from Molalla, was southbound on Highway 213 near milepost 23 negotiating a right curve when it lost control. The car slid broadside into the northbound lane where it was struck in the passenger side by a 2004 GMC van driven by MICHAEL BAKER, age 48, from Dayton. After impact, both vehicles came to a stop partially in the northbound lane and highway shoulder.
FREGOSO NAVARRO was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.
BAKER was transported by ambulance to Silverton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was using safety restraints and the van's airbags deployed.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Molalla Police Department, Molalla Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 213 was closed about three hours.
