A Boring-area woman died Friday night when the car she was driving crossed into the opposite lanes of travel on Highway 26 about four miles east of Sandy and collided head-on with another vehicle. The two occupants of the other vehicle were seriously injured.
On January 4, 2008 at approximately 7:35 p.m. a Ford Focus driven by GRETCHEN LEE KAHNERT, age 34, from Boring, was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 29 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline into the right eastbound lane where it crashed head-on with a Hyundai Tucson sport utility vehicle. The Ford Focus came to rest on top of the Hyundai in the eastbound lanes.
KAHNERT, who was driving with a suspended license, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.
The Hyundai's driver, DAVID M. TRUJILLO, age 66, and his wife/passenger, LESLIE ANN STANDEN-TRUJILLO, age 60, from Rhododendron, were seriously injured. They were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command office and Government Camp work site are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Sandy Police Department, Sandy Fire Department, AMR ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene.
The eastbound lanes were closed until about 12:30 a.m. Traffic was moving through the area using the westbound lanes.
