Update #2: Critical Injury Pedestrian-Involved Crash - SE 82nd Avenue / Otty Road
Lieutenant Gregg Hastings
Public Information Officer
(503) 731-3020 ext. 247

Based upon additional witness information provided following Monday afternoon's critical injury pedestrian-involved crash at S.E. 82nd Avenue and Otty Road, investigating Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers have confirmed a second vehicle was involved.
The initial on-scene investigation into the January 3, 2011 crash indicated one vehicle had struck CHASITY ANN BANKS, age 27, as she attempted to walk across S.E. 82nd Avenue in a marked crosswalk from the southwest corner to the southeast side at the intersection with Otty Road.
The ongoing investigation has now determined that at approximately 3:00 p.m. the 2004 Kia four-door driven by SARAH E. GUENTHER, age 19, from Happy Valley, was turning left from westbound Otty Road to southbound S.E. 82nd Avenue when it struck BANKS in the marked crosswalk. A Ford F-150 pickup driven by CRAIG H. DUNLAP, age 48, from Happy Valley, was behind the Kia also turning left. The Ford pickup drove to the right of the Kia which had abruptly stopped after striking BANKS. Unknown to DUNLAP, the pickup drove over the fallen pedestrian before the Kia drove forward and over her. The Kia stopped with BANKS critically injured underneath as some witnesses came to the scene to help.
DUNLAP had pulled into a side parking entrance and stopped. DUNLAP and his 19-year old passenger / daughter remained at the scene to give witness statements to troopers before leaving. There was no information or evidence at that time to indicate the pickup ran over the pedestrian.
Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation.
BANKS remains in critical condition at Oregon Health Sciences University. BANKS lives in the Portland area and previously lived in Atlanta, Georgia.
OSP continues to ask any witnesses who have not spoken with investigators to please call Senior Trooper Dianne Roper at (503) 731-3020 ext. 465.
Upon completion of the investigation, OSP will review it with the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office prior to any enforcement decision.
