Death Investigation - Ocean Shore near Cape Lookout State Park
Sergeant Todd Hoodenpyl
Oregon State Police - Tillamook
(503) 842-2899

The body of a man found at the base of a cliff in Cape Lookout State Park has been positively identifed by the Tillamook County Medical Examiner as a missing 45-year old Lombard, Illinois man. Oregon State Police (OSP) are working with Lombard, Illinois Police Department to complete the investigation and next of kin have been notified. There is no indication that the death is the result of a crime.
The investigation started at 9:30 p.m. on January 6, 2010 when OSP Trooper Leland Farrar found a vehicle registered out of Illinois in a parking area of Cape Lookout State Park. Upon requesting a wants check on the vehicle the trooper learned it was associated with a missing, possible suicidal person.
Farrar and a Tillamook County deputy checked area trails throughout the night but did not find anyone associated with the vehicle.
OSP, TCSO and search and rescue personnel, and U.S. Coast Guard personnel resumed an area search from the air and ground Thursday morning. At approximately 1:30 p.m. a body, later identified as missing Illinois man, was discovered on a rocky section of beach north of Camp Meriwether. The location was at the base of a near 600 foot cliff accessible from the parking lot where the vehicle was found.
