A Salem-area man remains missing Saturday after he reportedly fell off a cliff Friday evening at Rocky Creek State Park wayside about two miles south of Depoe Bay while visiting the area with his wife and friend. An area search was conducted Saturday morning with the help of US Coast Guard and local agencies.
On January 11, 2008 at approximately 6:00 p.m. BRIAN ALBERT WELLS, age 43, from Salem, reportedly stopped at Rocky Creek State Park wayside with his 54-year old wife and a 62-year old male friend to take pictures. According to his wife and friend, they had traveled to the coast in their gold/silver Ford F150 pickup for the day and stopped at the wayside where WELLS was leaning over the edge to take pictures and lost his balance. WELLS fell about 60 feet where he landed on rocks and water.
Oregon State Police, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Depoe Bay Fire & Rescue, and U.S. Coast Guard personnel responded. WELLS was last seen by his wife and friend in the water. An area search with the help of a Coast Guard helicopter was suspended at 11:00 p.m. The search efforts are resuming Saturday morning.
OSP troopers were also assisted by Lincoln City Police Department and Toldeo Police Department.
