Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Crash - Interstate 5 in Salem

An 18-year old Beaverton woman died Wednesday evening when she was struck by two vehicles in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Kuebler Road in Salem.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Mike Stupfel, on January 16, 2008 at approximately 5:51 p.m. OSP Northern Command Center dispatch received calls of a person in the roadway on Interstate 5. The calls placed this person somewhere between milepost 253 to milepost 245. Two OSP troopers responded to check the eight mile section and did not see anyone. A third trooper driving through the area at 6:28 p.m. came upon people standing on the southbound shoulder near a body.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 6:27 p.m. a 2002 Lexus sport utility vehicle driven by CECIL S. POWELL, age 61, from Salem, was southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 252 in the far right lane when it struck the victim in the traffic lane. A second southbound vehicle, a Toyota pickup driven by BRUCE BOER, age 62, from Salem, also drove over the victim after the initial collision.
The victim, identified as ANNASTECIA MARIE GREGORY, age 18, from Beaverton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The two involved drivers were not injured.
OSP troopers from the Salem and Capitol Mall offices responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation with medical examiner assistance.
Salem Fire & Rescue and ODOT assisted at the scene. One of three southbound lanes was closed about 90 minutes during the investigation.
