A John Day-area woman died Saturday following a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 26 about two miles west of Prairie City.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Gordon Larson, on January 17, 2009 at approximately 11:20 a.m. OSP troopers and Blue Mountain Hospital Ambulance personnel responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 26 near milepost 170. Upon arrival, FREDINA SUE McKROLA, age 66, from John Day, was found ejected from her vehicle. An OSP trooper and medical responders attempted to revive her but were unable to do so and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates McKROLA was driving a Chevrolet Suburban westbound and lost control before rolling over. She was not using safety restraints and was ejected. Spots of ice were reported in the area but the roadway conditions have not been confirmed as a contributing factor.
One lane has been closed during the investigation and was reopened by 3:00 p.m.
OSP troopers from the John Day work site will complete the investigation. ODOT and Blue Mountain Hospital Ambulance assisted at the scene.
