A California man was arrested Wednesday morning when an Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop north of Lakeview led troopers to discover over 4 pounds of marijuana concealed in his vehicle. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.
According to Sergeant Steve Yates, on January 19, 2011 at about 11:53 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta displaying California license plates northbound on Highway 395 near milepost 138 for a lane use traffic violation. The driver was identified as SHERMAN JAY HATFIELD, age 30, from Redding, California.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery of approximately 4.25 pounds of marijuana concealed in the trunk of the vehicle. Estimated value of the seized marijuana is over $10,000.
HATFIELD was arrested and lodged in the Lake County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana.
OSP troopers were assisted by a member of the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
