Two men died Wednesday afternoon and one other person received minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 140W about three miles west of Klamath Falls. Next of kin notification has been made and names are released.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Robert Fenner, on January 30, 2008 at approximately 12:20 p.m. a 1991 Nissan pickup driven by WALLACE HOMER HAMLET, age 82, from Central Point, was eastbound on Highway 140W near milepost 66 when it lost control on the packed snow/ice covered highway and slid broadside into the two westbound lanes. A westbound 1988 Jeep Cherokee four-door driven by JACK DARYEL HENDRICKSON, age 79, from Klamath Falls, crashed into the passenger side of the Nissan.

HAMLET was critically injured and transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center where he died after arrival.

The Nissan's right front passenger identified as RONALD RICHARD DILL, age 64, from Klamath Falls, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

HENDRICKSON was transported by ambulance to Sky Lakes Medical Center with minor injuries.

All three involved occupants were using safety restraints. Estimated speed of the Nissan when it lost control was 35 – 40 mph.

OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Assistance at the scene provided by Klamath County Fire District #1 and ODOT.

Highway 140W was closed for about 30 minutes and then one lane was opened for traffic until the scene was cleared about 3:30 p.m.
