Lieutenant Eric Judah
Oregon State Police - Salem
Office: (503) 378-3387

A Salem-area woman died Saturday afternoon after losing control of her motorcycle and then being struck by a pickup on Highway 214 near Stayton.
On January 31, 2009 at about 3:15 p.m., troopers from the Oregon State Police Salem Area Command office responded to a reported motorcycle crash on Highway 214 (Silver Falls Highway) at milepost 18. The investigation indicated a 2001 BMW motorcycle operated by KLARA CHRISTOF, age 42, from Salem, was southbound on Highway 214 near Carter Road when, for an unknown reason, she lost control and crashed. CHRISTOF separated from her motorcycle and came to rest near the center line of the roadway, lying partially in both lanes.
At about the same time, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup being driven by DAREN MILEY, age 22, from Stayton, was northbound. It is believed that the pickup may have struck CHRISTOF while she was lying in the roadway.
CHRISTOF was transported by ambulance to Santiam Hospital in Stayton but she died prior to reaching the hospital.  She was being followed by her husband on a separate motorcycle.
Highway 214 was closed in both directions for about two hours while OSP Collision Reconstructionists investigated the collision.
