A Grande Ronde-area woman died Friday afternoon when the car she was driving crashed into the side of a semi-trailer pulled by a commercial truck turning across Highway 99E between Canby and Oregon City. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation and no enforcement action has been taken.
Preliminary investigation indicates that on February 1, 2008 at approximately 3:30 p.m. a 1999 Freightliner pulling a 53-foot semi-trailer was driven by ROBERT WALLER, age 71, from Oakdale, California, when it attempted to turn left from a truck lot to go northbound near milepost 17. A southbound 2002 Nissan driven by CYNTHIA TREVINO-WILLIAMS, age 36, from Grande Ronde, was unable to stop in time as the truck and trailer made the left turn and drove under the semi-trailer near the rear wheels where it became wedged under the trailer.
TREVINO-WILLIAMS was pronounced deceased at the scene.
WALLER was not injured.
The OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Assistance at the scene provided by Canby Fire Department, Clackamas Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.
It was raining at the time of the collision but weather does not appear to be a factor. Highway 99E was closed for 4 hours during the investigation.
