Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing to work with ODOT personnel and other police agencies to help with winter highway problems around the state. Recent weather problems and resulting highway impacts are prime examples of why police and highway officials constantly remind motorists to plan appropriately when traveling during the winter.

With severe weather conditions that may result in unexpected delays, it's imperative to:
  • Drive at speeds to fit the conditions
  • Carry chains and know how to install them
  • Brake gently to avoid skidding and the loss of steering control
  • Top off fuel before you leave on a long trip
  • Bring along some snacks and water, and dress appropriately for winter conditions

Road condition updates are available by calling 511 or on-line at ODOT's travel information web site, www.tripcheck.com.
