A 17-year old Beaver-area girl died and two others were injured Saturday night when she lost control of her car on Highway 101 near Hebo and crashed head-on with a sport utility vehicle.
Oregon State Police (OSP) preliminary investigation indicates on February 2, 2008 at approximately 9:00 p.m. a 1995 Saturn station wagon driven by ELIZABETH BRYSON, age 17, from Beaver, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 84 coming out of a left curve when it lost control, drove across the centerline and crashed head-on with a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by MICHAEL FRANKLIN, age 25, from Corvallis.
BRYSON was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Saturn's passenger, HALLIE THOMPSON, age 19, from Beaver, was transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with serious injuries.
FRANKLIN was not injured. Passenger ANDREA GOMEZ, age 21, from Corvallis, was seriously injured and transported to Tillamook General Hospital. A two-month old boy in a child safety seat was not injured.
Safety restraint use information is pending confirmation.
OSP troopers from the Tillamook and Astoria offices are continuing the investigation. Speed is a possible contributing factor.
Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Tillamook Ambulance, ODOT, Nestucca Fire Department chaplain, and local fire personnel assisted. Highway 101 was closed at the crash scene location until 1:36 a.m.
