DUII Driver Arrested Following Critical Injury Crash north of Milton-Freewater

An investigation is continuing into a late Monday night crash north of Milton-Freewater that injured three people, one critically, and led to the arrest of a Kent, Washington driver for DUII and assault. One involved driver fled on foot and has not been located.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Lieutenant Greg Sherman, on February 2, 2009 at approximately 11:36 p.m. a report was received of a two-vehicle serious injury crash on Highway 11 near milepost 32 north of Milton-Freewater. Preliminary investigation indicates a 1998 Ford Taurus with three occupants was struck in the rear by a 2003 Toyota driven by TYRONE KINZER, age 43, from Kent, Washington.
After the crash, the driver of the Ford Taurus fled on foot leaving behind two injured passengers. ALMA TAYA, age 23, unknown residence, was critically injured and transported by air ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University. A second passenger, JANE IBARRA, age 43, unknown residence, received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
KINZER was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Walla Walla for treatment. Upon release, he was taken into custody and lodged in Walla Walla County Jail for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Assault in the Second Degree.
Safety restraint use information is not available.
OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office were assisted by Umatilla County Sheriff's Office, Umatilla County District Attorney's Office, Walla Walla Police Department, Milton-Freewater Police Department, and ODOT.
