Two Banks-area residents, including an 8-month pregnant woman, died Sunday night after losing control of their car and crashing into another vehicle on Highway 6 near Banks.
Preliminary investigation by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers indicates on February 3, 2008 at approximately 10:25 p.m. a 1989 Volvo 740 four-door driven by MISTY L. WHITE, age 28, was eastbound on Highway 6 near milepost 50 when it lost control on an icy section, hit the eastbound guardrail and traveled back across the highway into the westbound lane where it crashed into a 2007 Hyundai driven by MATTHEW S. OLSON, age 19, from Forest Grove.
WHITE, who was eight months pregnant, and right front passenger, MARTIN J. ARTHUR, age 41, both from Banks, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers report that ARTHUR is the father of WHITE's unborn child. Neither were believed to be using safety restraints.
WHITE's 4-year old son, CONNER WHITE, was in the right rear seating position in a child safety seat. He received serious injury and was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. ARTHUR's 16-year old nephew, TYLER ARTHUR, was in the left rear seating position using a safety belt. He was transported by Metro West ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with a possible injury and has been released.
OLSON was using safety restraints and was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Banks office are continuing the investigation. Washington County Sheriff's Office, Banks Fire Department, and ODOT assisted at the scene. Highway 6 was closed between Banks and Highway 26 for approximately 4 hours.
