A 59-year old Sweet Home woman died Thursday afternoon and a Lebanon-area woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 20 east of Albany.
On February 5, 2009 at approximately 5:40 p.m. a 1997 Kia four-door driven by SHELLEY NANCY HENEY, age 59, from Sweet Home, was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 7 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2006 Pontiac minivan with five occupants.
HENEY was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is pending further investigation.
The Pontiac's driver, KATHRYNE HADEN, age 52, from Lebanon, was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. Her husband, HAROLD HADEN, age 74, was in the right front seat and was not injured. Their son, THOMAS JOHN NOLAN HADEN, age 25, and two grand daughters, ages 3 and 7, were also not injured. All were using safety restraints and a child safety seat, and the van's airbags deployed.
Highway 20 was closed in both directions for about 2 1/2 hours.
OSP troopers from the Albany Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Linn County Sheriff's Office, Albany Fire Department, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
