The Oregon State Police, the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal and several other Marion County area public safety agencies and organizations received special recognition Wednesday night during the annual dinner and awards presentation hosted by the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments.  The special award recognized “professionalism, compassion and spirit of regional cooperation in responding to the needs of the citizens of the City of Aumsville following the December 2010 Aumsville Tornado.”

The Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments is a voluntary association of 42 local governments.  Members include Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties, 31 cities, seven special districts, and the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.

On February 2, 2011 at the Oregon Garden Resort in Silverton, the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal were presented with “The Chairperson’s Choice Award”.  The award recognizes “an individual or group for an achievement or effort that the Board Chair feels is deserving”.

Other public safety agency responders also receiving the same award included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, Stayton Police Department, Aumsville Fire Department, and Sublimity Fire Department.
