The following is from a news release issued by Oregon Department of Corrections

On February 3, 2012 at 12:45 p.m., Oregon Department of Corrections’ (DOC) inmate Michael Clarence Hagen (SID #18040458) passed away. Inmate Hagen was found unresponsive in his cell, Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Snake River Correctional Institution. The inmate was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he later died.

Due to the possibility that inmate Hagen’s death may be related to an assault from another inmate, the Oregon State Police are investigating the incident. No additional information will be released at this time without authorization of the Malheur County District Attorney's Office.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Thursday, February 9th.

Inmate Hagen was admitted to DOC on May 21, 2010. He was convicted of robbery I, two counts of burglary I, assault I and three counts of attempted aggravated murder out of Multnomah County. His earliest release date was January 7, 2027.
