Two people died and two others were seriously injured Sunday morning in a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 26 about nine miles east of Sandy.
On February 10, 2008 at approximately 10:55 a.m. a 1997 Honda Accord driven by HEIDI CHRISTINE JOHNSON, age 22, from northwest Portland, was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 34 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with an eastbound 1993 Toyota pickup.
JOHNSON was initially transported to a LifeFlight landing zone set up at Firwood Middle School near Sandy but she was pronounced deceased before departure. She was using safety restraints.
The Honda's passenger, JESSE MAIKA KAILEA, age 22, from Vancouver, Washington, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.
The two occupants of the pickup were seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. The driver is identified as ROSS TAYLOR MACK, age 30, from northeast Portland. The passenger is identified as RAYMOND BRUCE COOPER, age 30, from southwest Portland. MACK was using safety restraints but investigators have not confirmed if COOPER was using safety retraints.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command and Government Camp offices are investigating. Members of the Clackamas County interagency crash investigation team, which included members today from the Sheriff's Office and Lake Oswego Police Department, assisted.
ODOT and Hoodland Fire Department also assisted. One lane was opened at 12:53 p.m. and all lanes at 2:27 p.m.
