Oregon State Police - Coos Bay
Office: (541) 888-2677

Oregon State Police and Coos County Medical Examiner are completing the investigation into the apparent suicidal death of a 46-year old Coos Bay-area man whose body was found at the base of the 100-foot Golden Falls located about 24 miles northeast of Coos Bay at Golden & Silver Falls State Natural Area. The man had been reported missing earlier in the week by family members.

On February 15, 2008 at approximately 10:00 a.m., State Parks personnel reported an abandoned vehicle that had been at a parking lot for a couple days at Golden & Silver Falls State Natural Area located northeast of Coos Bay via North Coos River Highway. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office responded and learned the vehicle belonged to a 46-year old Coos Bay man who failed to appear for a Coos County Circuit Court appearance February 12th on a misdemeanor charge. The man, who according to family members may have been suicidal, had been reported missing earlier in the week.

OSP troopers checked the area and at 12:45 p.m. found DALE MARTIN THOMAS at the base of the 100-foot Golden Falls.

Coos County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and confirmed that the preliminary investigation indicates the cause of death was caused by the fall onto the boulders at the base of the falls.
