A Pendleton-area woman died Saturday afternoon when she car lost control and rolled several times on Interstate 84 about ten miles west of Pendleton.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Daniel Routt, on February 14, 2009 at approximately 4:10 p.m. a 1993 Ford Tempo four-door driven by CARRIE LYNN SMITH, age 46, from Pendleton, was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 194. The Ford left the freeway onto the north shoulder and crossed into the gravel. The Ford over-corrected, came back onto the freeway and began to roll on its side. It crossed both of eastbound lanes and impacted a side-slope where it rolled several times along the south shoulder.
SMITH was not properly restrained and was ejected. She was pronounced deceased on scene.
OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Hermiston Fire Department, Echo Rural Fire Department, Umatilla County Sheriffs Office, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
