Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 97 north of Oregon/California Border

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday evening’s fatal traffic crash on Highway 97 about four miles north of the Oregon/California border involving a pickup and commercial truck. A Dorris, California woman died and her daughter was injured in the crash in which speed and icy roadway conditions were possible contributing factors.
According to Sergeant Patrick Trippett, on February 14, 2012 at approximately 7:05 p.m. a 1993 Nissan pickup driven by SHIRLEY L. WILLIFORD, age 59, from Dorris, California was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 290 when it collided head-on with a northbound 2002 Peterbilt truck driven by ROBERT D. PARENTEAU, age 51, from Hollister, California. After impact the vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.
WILLIFORD was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her daughter, SARA YEAGER, age 15, was transported by EMS to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints.
PARENTEAU was not injured. He was also using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by California Highway Patrol, Klamath County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and Keno Fire/Ambulance. Highway 97 was closed at the crash scene for approximately four hours.
