Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 20W near Santiam Junction

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 20W near the Santiam Junction that has resulted in the death of a Redmond-area man after he was transported to a hospital.
According to Senior Trooper Joey Pollard, on February 18, 2011 at approximately 1:04 p.m. a black 2008 GMC Yukon driven by RAN FLOYD, age 45, from La Pine, was eastbound on Highway 20W near milepost 78 in the right lane completing a pass of a witness's vehicle when FLOYD lost control. The vehicle collided head-on with a westbound brown 2003 GMC Yukon driven by JOHN PATRICK McDONALD, age 70, from Redmond.
FLOYD and right front passenger YOUNG O. LEE, age 72, from Salem, were all transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend for treatment. The driver was seriously injured and LEE received non-life threatening injuries. Two child passengers, age 13 and 7, were not injured. All were using safety restraints.
JOHN McDONALD and his wife, JOANN McDONALD, age 66, were also transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. The driver was critically injured and transported by air ambulance. JOHN McDONALD was pronounced deceased Friday afternoon. His wife was transported by ground ambulance with possible serious injuries. Safety restraint use information is pending confirmation.
Roadway conditions were described as packed snow and slush.
OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office are continuing the investigation.  Black Butte Police Department, Sisters Fire Department, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
