Following an investigation by Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division, a 43-year old man was sentenced last Thursday to prison after pleading guilty in Josephine County Circuit Court to multiple sex crimes.
On February 17, 2011, JAMES RAY AVERY, age 43, was sentenced to 144 months after pleading guilty to 9 counts of Sodomy, Sex Abuse and Unlawful Sexual Penetration. OSP Detective Bryan Scott started the investigation in late 2009 after receiving information from a Maryland law enforcement agency following AVERY's conviction in their state of a sexual assault. The victim is now an adult female relative who was sexually abused by AVERY over a five year period when she was between 7 and 12 years of age.
After AVERY was indicted on 28 counts in Oregon, he was transported by US Marshals from Maryland and lodged at the Josephine County Jail pending adjudication of the case.
Questions regarding the sentencing should be directed to the Josephine County District Attorney's Office.
