OSP Traffic Stop Leads to 2 Arrests Following Discovery of Drugs, Guns, and Body Armor

Two California-area residents were arrested Tuesday afternoon by Oregon State Police (OSP) during a traffic stop north of Eugene that led to the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine, firearms and body armor.
 
On February 24, 2009 at approximately 2:35 p.m. an OSP trooper stopped a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe displaying California license plates southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 200 for a speed violation. The trooper identified the two occupants as driver JUAN FRANCISCO JIMENEZ JR., age 34, and passenger ALENIA ROSARIO NUNEZ, age 26, both from Los Angeles, California. The trooper checked to determine if either individual was wanted and learned JIMENEZ was sought by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
 
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery in the vehicle of:
  • Approximately 14 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 8 grams of methamphetamine
  • Two loaded handguns, one of which was confirmed as stolen in the Los Angeles area
  • One set of body armor
  • Approximately $9,500 cash
 
Both persons were taken into custody and lodged in the Lane County Jail on the following charges:
 
JUAN FRANCISCO JIMENEZ JR.
  • Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine
  • Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Felon in Possession of Body Armor
  • Money Laundering
  • A hold is also placed on this individual by Immigration and Customs Enforcement
 
ALENIA ROSARIO NUNEZ
  • Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine
  • Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Money Laundering
