Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Monday morning’s single vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 11 in the Milton-Freewater area that resulted in the death of a Walla Walla, Washington man. Speed and icy road conditions were contributing factors.
According to Sergeant Sterling Hall, on February 27, 2012 at approximately 6:50 a.m. a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup driven by ENRIQUE GONZALES, age 61, from Walla Walla, Washington was southbound on Highway 11 near milepost 34 when it lost control on the ice-covered roadway. The pickup spun around as it crossed the highway where it tripped on the east side curb, went airborne and landed on its passenger side. The pickup crashed into a concrete wall, abruptly coming to a stop.
GONZALES was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Trooper Marcus Burt is lead investigator.
Milton-Freewater Rural Ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene. Northbound traffic was closed intermittently until the highway was opened about 11:30 a.m.
