Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Tuesday morning’s fatal motorcycle crash that resulted in the death of an adult male along Highway 47 about three miles south of the Yamhill / Washington County line.
According to Lieutenant Eric Davenport, on February 28, 2012 at approximately 6:29 a.m. an off-duty Washington County deputy spotted a crashed motorcycle in a field along Highway 47 near milepost 30. Responding McMinnville Fire Department medics pronounced the operator, MARK STEPHEN SCHMIDT II, age 29, deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was northbound when SCHMIDT lost control negotiating a curve, traveled off the northbound shoulder and crashed in a field. SCHMIDT was wearing a protective helmet and operating the motorcycle with a suspended license. He has previously lived in Otis, Tigard and McMinnville areas. His last known residence location is pending confirmation.
OSP has not determined the time of the crash. Troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor is the lead investigator.
