Two Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stops last week in southern Oregon led to the total seizure of over 12 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of five people, three from Washington State and two from Oregon. Detectives from the OSP Drug Enforcement Section are conducting the follow-up investigation in both cases.

The first incident occurred March 3, 2011 at about 9:27 p.m. when an OSP trooper stopped a 2003 Dodge 3500 pickup with three occupants northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 29 for a traffic violation. The occupants were identified as driver JAMES MEAD, age 19, and passengers JACOB HADALLER, age 23, and CLIFFORD CARBIN, age 21. The three men are from Centralia, Washington.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop, with the help of a Medford Police Department drug detection canine, led to the discovery of approximately 5 pounds of marijuana individually packaged in plastic bags within a larger bag inside the pickup. The seized marijuana has an estimated value of $10,000.

The three men were arrested for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana.
