Update: Wanted Person in Ontario Area in Custody
A wanted man considered possibly dangerous who was the focus of police activity in Ontario earlier this morning was taken into custody west of Ontario after a store owner identify him from news reports. Malheur County Sheriff's Office is the arresting agency and questions should be directed to their agency.
BILLY JOE EVANS, age 56, was wanted out of Wyoming (Parole Violation) and Ohio (Fraud). On March 14, 2008, Ontario Police Department was called to the Ontario Inn hotel regarding a suspicious man. A check on a vehicle at the hotel determined it was stolen out of North Dakota and man was wanted as listed above.
Ontario police, with the help of county and state police officers, cordoned off a 3 block area around the hotel as officers dealt with the situation to determine if the man is still there. EVANS was determined to have left and was not found.
A news release with EVANS' photo was sent to area media to help locate him. A store owner at the Brogan store about 40 miles northwest of Ontario spotted the man in his store and notified Malheur County Sheriff's Office who sent deputies and arrested EVANS.
