Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into a Saturday afternoon two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 22W near the Salt Creek Store west of Dallas. A female victim died at an area hospital and two other people were transported with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Trooper Andrew Goffrier, on March 17, 2012 at approximately 12:32 p.m. a 2008 Honda Civic four-door driven by KENNETH L. KERR, age 89, from Salem, was westbound on Highway 22W near milepost 9 when it lost control on the hail-covered road. The Honda crossed into the eastbound lane where it collided head-on with a 2008 Toyota Camry four-door driven by SHARON R. GILMORE, age 49, from Sheridan.
KENNETH KERR was transported to Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His passenger wife, MARGUERITE RUTH KERR, age 88, was also transported to Salem Hospital where she died after arrival.
GILMORE was transported to Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
All three were using safety restraints and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Keizer Police Department, Polk County Sheriff's Office, Dallas Fire Department, and ODOT.
