Double Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 20W west of Bend

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Bend Area Command are continuing the investigation in to a Saturday evening's two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 20W between Bend and Sisters. Two males died at the scene and a female passenger was transported to a local hospital by air ambulance in critical condition.
According to Sergeant David MacKenzie, on March 17, 2012 at approximately 6:45 p.m., a 2001 Nissan Sentra four door driven by JESUS RAMIREZ LARIOS, age 33, from Pasco, Washington, was westbound on Highway 20W near milepost 9 when it crossed the center line into the eastbound lane where it collided head-on with a 2006 Subaru wagon driven by DEAN HALE, age 62, from Bend.
A witness was in the process of calling 911 to report the Nissan's hazardous driving when the collision occurred.
Both male drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.
HALE's passenger wife, PATRICIA MEEHAN, age 59, from Bend, was transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with critical injuries.
HALE and MEEHAN were using safety restraints. RAMIREZ LARIOS was not using safety restraints. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, Cloverdale Rural Fire Department, Sisters-Black Butte Fire Department, and Bend Fire and Rescue.
Trooper Gary Thompson is the lead investigator.
The highway was closed about hour hours during the investigation.
