Salem-area OSP Senior Trooper Receives "DUII Trainer of the Year" Award
Sergeant Timothy Plummer
Patrol Services Division - General Headquarters
Office: (503) 934-0267

An Oregon State Police trooper assigned to the Salem Area Command office was recently recognized for his DUII training efforts at the 2008 Annual DUII Multi-Disciplinary Impaired Driving Training Conference held March 14th and 15th in Bend. The Oregon DUII Multi-Disciplinary Training Task Force presented their annual awards of excellence to various organizations, groups, and individuals who made a significant contribution to deterring impaired driving in Oregon during 2007.
Senior Trooper Michael Iwai, a 10-year veteran with the Oregon State Police, was presented the "DUII Trainer of the Year" award in recognition of the nearly 230 hours of DUII-related instruction during 2007. Instruction included Standardized Field Sobriety Testing to basic police recruits at the Oregon Public Safety Academy, and DRE classes to officers in Oregon and other states as far away as Wyoming. He also has given classes on Drug Impairment Training for Educational Professionals, and teaches DUII and traffic law in high schools and at Mt. Hood Community College. All these instruction hours are done while he continues his primary duties with the Department's Aggressive Driving Enforcement program working out of the Salem Area Command office.
Questions regarding the DUII Multi-Disciplinary Impaired Driving Training Conference can be directed to Lieutenant John Diehl, Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, at (503) 378-2398.
