OSP Arrests Driver Following Traffic Crash That Injured Union County Sergeant

A 21-year old La Grande man was arrested early Wednesday morning after his involvement in a traffic crash that injured a Union County Sheriff's Office sergeant. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers with the assistance of Union County District Attorney's Office, Union County Sheriff's Office and La Grande Police Department are continuing the investigation.
On March 21, 2012 at approximately 12:31 a.m. Union County Sergeant David Nafziger, age 53, from La Grande, was stopped in a marked 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol vehicle for a red stop light on Island Avenue at Monroe Street when it was struck in the rear by a 2005 Ford F350 pickup.
Sergeant Nafziger was transported by ambulance to Grande Ronde Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was using safety restraints. Nafziger retired from OSP before joining Union County Sheriff's Office.
The pickup's driver, TUCKER GENE DUNBAR, age 21, from La Grande, was not injured. Subsequent to the investigation, OSP arrested DUNBAR and lodged him in the Union County Jail on the following charges:
  • Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII --- Alcohol)
  • Assault in the Third Degree
  • Reckless Driving
DUNBAR was also cited for Driving While Suspended. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the La Grande Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Lead investigator is Trooper Kent Arbon.
