Two Newport-area men were arrested earlier this week on heroin charges related to an investigation by the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT). According to LINT, these arrests impacted a number of local residents who were purchasing heroin from both suspects.

On March 19, 2012, LINT detectives assisted Lincoln County Parole and Probation and Newport Police Department in a possession of heroin investigation in Newport that led to the arrest of CASEY JONES, age 21. JONES was found in possession of approximately one ounce of heroin, a handgun and related evidence. JONES was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance --- Heroin, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The next day, March 20, LINT detectives continued the investigation and learned a person would be traveling from Portland to Newport to deliver heroin. LINT detectives and Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers set up surveillance to watch for the vehicle on Highway 20 near the Lincoln County line.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. OSP spotted the vehicle, a 1980 Toyota pickup, westbound on Highway 20 near Elmaker State Park east of Eddyville and stopped it. Troopers and LINT detectives contacted the driver identified as WILEY JOE PEARCE, age 24, from Newport. With the assistance of an OSP drug detection canine, LINT detectives discovered over 2 ounces of heroin and other evidence in the bed of the pickup.

WILEY was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for Unlawful Manufacture, Delivery and Possession of a Controlled Substance - Heroin.

Total estimated value of the seized heroin in this investigation is $4500.

LINT is comprised of members from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln City Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Lincoln County District Attorney's Office.
