(541) 776-6114 ext. 288

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into an early Sunday morning single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 62 about four miles west of Prospect that resulted in the death of one person. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

On March 28, 2010 at about 1:42 a.m. a 2002 Chevrolet pickup operated by RUSSELL SCHULTZ, age 43, from Prospect was eastbound on Highway 62 near milepost 40. The pickup drifted onto the eastbound shoulder where SCHULTZ overcorrected the steering and came back onto the roadway. The pickup rolled multiple times coming to rest on its wheels on the eastbound shoulder.

SCHULTZ was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash. Evidence at the scene indicates alcohol was a contributing factor.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Central Point Area Command office are continuing their investigation into the crash. The eastbound lane of travel was closed for about four hours.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Prospect Fire Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office Medical Examiner and ODOT.

Anyone with information in regards to where SCHULTZ was traveling from is encouraged to contact Trooper Venables at 541-776-6114 ext. 335.
