Child Abuse Investigation Leads to Assault, Drug Charges for Talent-area Woman

A Talent-area woman was arraigned last Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court on multiple counts following a joint investigation into allegations of ongoing physical and mental abuse toward her two teenage children. The investigation involved the Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division, Talent Police Department, and Department of Human Services - Child Services Division.
VALERY LEE PODSOBINSKI, age 45, was arraigned March 24, 2011 on the following charges:
  • Applying a Controlled Substance to a Minor (2 counts)
  • Distribution of Marijuana to a Minor (2 counts)
  • Felony Possession of Marijuana
  • Felony Possession of Psilocybin Mushroom
  • Felony Assault in the Fourth Degree (2 counts)
  • Misdemeanor Assault in the Fourth Degree (2 counts)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (2 counts)
The investigation started January 31st when information was disclosed alleging physical abuse and assaults occurring on a weekly basis. The physical abuse involved assaults with belts, paddles, wooden spoons and spatulas. In addition, PODSOBINSKI was reportedly giving the children marijuana in edible forms and was also found in possession of over an ounce of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms.
