Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 58 in Willamette Pass Area

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 58 in the Willamette Pass area that resulted in the death of a 58-year old Cottage Grove woman. The 17-year old male driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
According to Master Sergeant Lang Hinkle, on March 30, 2012 at approximately 12:05 p.m. a 1997 Ford F250 flatbed pickup driven by ANDREW J. MILES, age 17, from Scio, was eastbound on Highway 58 near milepost 59 negotiating a right curve when it lost control on the snow/slush covered roadway. The Ford pickup crossed into the westbound lane colliding head-on with a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer driven by CYNTHIA ANNE COOP, age 58, from Cottage Grove.
COOP was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.
MILES was using safety restraints and was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command and Oakridge offices are continuing the investigation. No enforcement action was taken pending completion of the investigation. Senior Trooper Ron Martin is the lead investigator.
The highway was closed in both directions for approximately 2 hours at which time ODOT established traffic control opening one travel lane until the highway was completely opened again at 4:50 p.m.
Assisting OSP at the scene were ODOT, Oakridge Fire Department, and Crescent Lake Rural Fire/Ambulance.
