Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the State Medical Examiner's office to positively identify the remains of a body found Saturday morning on the ocean shore south of the South Jetty in the Fort Stevens State Park area.
According to OSP Detective Matt Beeson, on April 2, 2011 at approximately 8:30 a.m. a person walking on the beach reported finding the remains. OSP and Clatsop County Sheriff's Office responded and confirmed the report. It appears the partial remains washed onto the beach and had been in the water for a significant period. It is not known if the remains are of a male or female.
Positive identification may take several days. No other information for release at this time.
Members of the OSP Astoria Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
