An elderly woman died Tuesday afternoon when her car was struck by a moving truck as she turned from a parking lot onto Highway 126E near Blue River. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
According to Senior Trooper Blaine Hlebechuk, on April 3, 2012 at approximately 2:40 p.m. a 2001 Ford Escort operated by JOHANNA JUNE KIRKPATRICK, age 83, from Blue River, was exiting an automotive repair business parking lot on the north side of Highway 126E near milepost 37. The Ford turned left in front of a westbound U-Haul moving truck driven by RON A BONINI, age 42, from Eugene, and was struck in the driver's side by the truck.
KIRKPATRICK was pronounced deceased at the scene.
BONINI was not injured.
Both were using safety restraints.
Highway 126E was reduced to one lane of travel for about three hours during the investigation. OSP was assisted at the scene by McKenzie Fire District and ODOT.
