Update: Jackson County Grand Jury Indicts Eagle Point Man on Multiple Charges Including Murder

An Eagle Point-area man arrested March 28, 2012 related to the shooting death of his roommate was indicted Tuesday by a Jackson County Grand Jury on numerous charges. DYLAN BRANTING ASHMUN, age 26, was indicted on the following charges:
  • Murder
  • Manslaughter in the First Degree
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm (7 counts)
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  • Pointing a Firearm at Another Person
  • Tampering With Evidence
  • Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana
Initially reported as a suicide, the body of JOSEPH FAAETEETE, age 24, from Eagle Point, was found deceased in the garage of his residence from a gun shot wound. The Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) were activated with OSP Criminal Investigation Division detectives as lead investigators. ASHMUN was subsequently arrested related to the death of FAAETEETE.
The ongoing investigation developed information that ASHMUN hid approximately 1 pound of marijuana and three firearms on the residence property. Detectives found and recovered the marijuana and firearms.
OSP detectives have been assisted in this investigation by the Jackson County District Attorney's Office; detectives from Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Central Point Police Department and Ashland Police Department; officers from Eagle Point Police Department; and, forensic scientists from the OSP Forensic Services Division.
ASHMUN remains lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
