A Bend man is custody Saturday night after attempting to elude an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper and crashing his motorcycle on Highway 126W approximately 6 miles east of Sisters.
On April 4, 2009 at about 8:40 p.m. ANTHONY TY SURATT, age 28, from Bend, was observed westbound on Highway 126W near milepost 103 about ten miles west of Redmond heading towards Sisters. OSP Trooper Gary Thompson contacted OSP dispatch by radio and advised he was attempting to stop a westbound 2003 Suzuki motorcycle that had been checked on radar at 135 miles per hour.
Deschutes County Sheriff's Office deputies positioned themselves in various locations to help intercept the SURATT. However, while attempting to negotiate a sweeping right hand corner on near milepost 100, SURATT's motorcycle crossed into the oncoming lane and left the roadway crashing onto the dirt shoulder.
SURATT, who was wearing a helmet and leather motorcycle jacket, received minor injuries. He was later arrested and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail for:
  • Reckless Driving
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person
  • Felony Attempt to Elude
  • Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
