THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS RELEASE FROM BAKER CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

Involved Person(s): Albert Paul Chretien - 59 years of age
Rita Eleanor Chretien - 56 years of age

On April 1, 2011 at approximately 10:24 p.m. the Baker City Police Department (BCPD) was contacted by the Washington State Police regarding a missing persons' case out of Canada. BCPD officers were requested to contact Jackson's Food Mart at 500 Campbell Street in Baker City, which was the last known location of credit card use by the missing couple, Albert and Rita Chretien, who were en-route to Las Vegas, Nevada from Canada.

BCPD officers were able to determine that there was video footage of subjects in the convenience store, which could possibly be the Chretiens. Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were able to get a positive identification that the Chretiens were in fact the couple in the surveillance video in Jackson's Food Mart on March 19, 2011 at approximately 2:41 p.m.

BCPD officers searched motels in Baker City for the Chretiens and have conducted a zone search of our city, with no sign of the missing couple or their vehicle, a two-tone tan 2000 Chevrolet Astro van displaying British Columbia license 212 CAV. BCPD officers also relayed information about the Chretiens to the Baker County Sheriff's Office.

On April 3, 2011 at about 10:50 p.m. BCPD received information from a Baker City resident that the Chretiens had been in her business on March 19, 2011 between about 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. BCPD was told that the Chretiens were inquiring about tourist destinations near Baker City. The Chretiens were given information about locations within our region, which was also relayed to area law enforcement and the RCMP.

On April 4, 2011 at about 1:00 p.m. two Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) sergeants arrived in Baker City. A briefing was conducted with the RCMP sergeants, BCPD personnel, and members of the Oregon State Police and Baker County Sheriff's Office. The RCMP and BCPD are continuing with the investigative efforts while the Oregon State Police and Baker County Sheriff's Office are handling the search efforts on secondary state and county roads.

Law Enforcement is requesting that any anyone with information related to the Chretiens or their missing vehicle to contact the toll free US/Canada Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477 or:
