Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detectives and patrol troopers are continuing the investigation following the discovery of the remains of two people in the brush off a hiking trail at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area south of Yachats. The remains were found by a hiker Saturday afternoon and appear to have been at the location for a significant period of time. OSP will work with the State Medical Examiner's Office to positively identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of their deaths.
On April 9, 2011 at approximately 1:30 p.m. a hiker reported finding the remains near the Cape Perpetua Lookout area. OSP troopers responded and confirmed the discovery of what appears to be an adult male and adult female. Detectives responded to process the scene and assist with the recovery of property and any evidence that may help indicate the cause and manner of death. Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue personnel assisted with recovering the bodies.
No other information to be released pending confirmation of identities and completion of next of kin notifications.
