A 60-year old Longview, Washington man was arrested Monday afternoon at Rooster Rock State Park following a brief struggle when he rushed an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper with the alleged intention of stealing the trooper's patrol car.

On April 9, 2012 at approximately 12:55 p.m. an OSP trooper pulled into Rooster Rock State Park and saw a suspicious vehicle unoccupied with headlights and emergency hazard flashers on in the parking lot. As the trooper was seated in the marked OSP patrol car checking to determine if the vehicle was stolen, he saw a man approaching on foot from behind.

The man was about 50 yards away when he suddenly began running toward the trooper's door. As the trooper opened the door to quickly get out, the man was yelling he was the "messiah" and telling the trooper to get out because he was going to take the patrol car. A brief struggle ensued between the man and the trooper before he was restrained and handcuffed.

Additional officers from OSP and Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, along with medical responders arrived to assist. Neither the trooper nor the man was injured.

The man was identified as JAMES DUANE ROBERSON, age 60, from Longview, Washington. ROBERSON was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Umatilla County for Failure to Appear --- Assaulting a Public Safety Officer. He was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on the warrant. Additional local charges may be pending.
