Through the assistance of tips generated by media reports, Oregon State Police (OSP) made an arrest Monday afternoon of the suspect on allegations related to an injury hit and run crash eight days ago on the southbound lanes of Interstate 205 between the West Linn 10th Street interchange and Tualatin River. The involved vehicle was also located and has been seized pursuant to a search warrant issued for this investigation.

On April 13, 2009 at 3:02 p.m. OSP Senior Trooper Jeremy Richardson and Detective Jon Harrington arrested COREY JOSEPH McCORMICK, age 19, from Milwaukie, at a Gladstone area residence. Over the weekend, OSP received information related to this investigation that McCORMICK was the driver of a pickup involved in a April 5th traffic crash southbound on Interstate 205 near milepost 5. The involved pickup was located at the suspect's home and seized pursuant to a search warrant.

Preliminary investigation indicated at approximately 5:20 a.m. a 1981 BMW two-door driven by KEVIN ELLSWORTH, age 54, from southeast Portland, was southbound on Interstate 205 near milepost 5 when it was struck from behind and sent careening off the right side of the freeway. The BMW hit an embankment and a tree before overturning and injuring ELLSWORTH, who was transported and treated at Legacy Emanuel Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Two witnesses in the area observed a pickup driving recklessly southbound from where the crash scene was located. Evidence debris indicated the suspect vehicle may have been a light-colored late 1990's to early 2000 Ford F150 pickup.

Several area media reports were provided to the public and investigators credit these as helping lead to an arrest in this case.

McCORMICK was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail for Felony Hit & Run, Reckless Driving, Assault in the Fourth Degree, and Hindering Prosecution.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Senior Trooper Richardson at (503) 731-3020 ext. 421.
