Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of one person on Highway 22 about three miles west of Dallas. The crash closed the highway for over three hours.
According to OSP Sergeant Bob Charpentier, on April 13, 2011 at approximately 9:20 a.m. a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with large paper rolls driven by LESLIE D. BRANNON, age 60, from Veneta, was eastbound on Highway 22 near milepost 12. For an unknown reason, a westbound Ford Ranger pickup driven by GARY N. BUTLER, age 58, from Grand Ronde, crossed the center line and was struck in the driver's side by the truck. A third vehicle, a Ford pickup driven by AARON MORGAN, age 41, from Lebanon, was following the Ford Ranger pickup and couldn't stop before colliding with the semi-trailer.
BUTLER was pronounced deceased at the scene.
BRANNON received minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Dallas Hospital.
MORGAN was not injured. His vehicle had very minor damage.
All three men were using safety restraints.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, Dallas Fire Department, and ODOT.
