Update: Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in Douglas County

On April 13, 2008, at about 0558 hours, a man was shot by law enforcement officers following a four hour standoff. The incident began at the Douglas County Fairgrounds at about 0120 hours when an armed man fled from police during a suspicious vehicle check by an Oregon State Police trooper.
The fleeing vehicle was eventually boxed in on a logging road about 4.5 miles off the end of Callahan Road, about 10 miles west of Roseburg. The man, who was armed with a handgun, was shot by police officers after four hours of negotiating. The specific details that led to the shooting are still under investigation. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has been identified as 46 year old Donald Eugene Lowry of Myrtle Creek.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is continuing their investigation into the shooting. An autopsy on Donald Lowry is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15th.
Next of kin has been notified.
No further information will be released today.
